Verification
|Application|Application Fee|Assessment|Previous Transcripts

1. Verification. Students must complete the verification form before applying for admission. Verification may allow you to begin taking energy classes without the math assessment for the program. Verification also helps us to better assist you in reaching your educational goals.

This form can be found at bscmilitaryonline/course/verification.

The math assessment requirements for energy classes are as follows:
- ACT score of 16 or higher in math (no more than 5 years old). Nuclear Power Technology is an ACT score of 19 or higher.
- COMPASS score of 41 or higher on the pre-algebra portion (no more than 3 years old). Nuclear Power Technology is a COMPASS score of 51 or higher on the algebra portion.
- ACCUPLACER score of 44 or higher on the elementary algebra portion (no more than 3 years old). Nuclear Power Technology is an ACCUPLACER score of 109 or higher on the elementary algebra portion.
- Completion of previous college math (Beginning Algebra or above) also meets the program entrance requirements. After BSC receives your college transcript, we will review the math course and let you know if it meets the requirement.

2.  Fill out an Application for Admissions. If you would like to apply online and pay your application fee (if applicable) by credit card, check card or electronic check, please go online to the BSC web-based admissions applicationNote: You must have a valid email address to apply online.

3.  Application Fee payment. There is a $35 application fee for all students applying to Bismarck State College. This fee may be paid online with your application.

Any student who provides documented proof of active military duty status will have the fee waived.  Proper documentation includes a copy of one of the following:
- Common Access Card (CAC)
- Military ID indicating Active Duty Status
- Orders indicating Active Duty Status
A copy of the documentation may be faxed to the Admissions office at 701-224-5643 or emailed to BSC.Admissions@bismarckstate.edu.

4. Assessment. All students who plan to be degree-seeking and/or take an English or Math course must submit appropriate assessment scores prior to enrollment. If you have not previously completed a college level Math and/or English course, an ACT score is required for students under age 25. For students 25 and older a COMPASS or ACCUPLACER score is required.
  • ACT scores more than five years old and COMPASS or ACCUPLACER scores more than three years old are considered expired.
  • The ND Board of Higher Education requires all first time students ages 24 or younger and/or students with less than 25 semester hours of completed college credit to submit ACT scores (no more than 5 years old). Students with ACT scores more than five years old must complete the COMPASS placement exam.
  • BSC requires all students who are 25 or older to submit COMPASS or ACCUPLACER scores (no more than 3 years old).
  • Students who have successfully completed college level English and/or Math courses are exempt from the assessment requirement.  Example, if you have taken a college level English course, but not Math, you would be required to submit assessment scores for Math.
